Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson playing and singing "Deep River Blues". Have to cross one thing off my bucket list...never got to go see him in concert and he was in West Plains a few years back and I missed him.
Doc pickin "Deep River Blues" in his beautiful Merle Travis influenced style.
This was recorded in 1991. | |

Leamon & Helen Riggs
I miss my Mom and Dad every day but especially on Memorial Day. Dad was a veteran of the Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was a carpenter, real estate broker, auction clerk, had a moving and storage business, ran a used furniture store, repaired farm equipment and a host of other things that I have probably forgot. Mom was a homemaker, cook, gardener, seamstress, crocheter, knitter, quilter and anything else that needed doing. More than anything, they were Godly people that took me to church and taught me by example the ways of God. They were not perfect but I am not ashamed to claim them as my parents.

Chicken Foot with the Bean Clan!!
Grandpa Bean and his brothers love the game of "Chicken Foot" played with dominoes. The first game I played with them, I got a royal "shellacking" which they have never let me live down! The important lessons learned in that first game were "Cover the blank" and "Take one for the team"! So since then, it is "No More Mr. Nice Guy" with this nephew!!! We played a few weeks ago at Uncle Doug and Aunt Bonnie's house and again last night at Grandma and Grandpa Bean's. Tami was the winner and a good time was had by all!
There are eight Bean brothers with five remaining. Uncle Abe, Uncle Donald and Uncle Gene have all passed within the past three years. The five that remain were together last night and although they're not as rambunctious as they used to be, I believe their "Oneryness" has just increased! This is the "pecking" order with their wives:
Uncle Abe and Aunt Dorothy Jo
Joe and Juanita (Grandpa and Grandma Bean)
Uncle Gene and Aunt Pauline
Uncle Donald and Aunt Mona
Uncle Tinker (Jerry) and Aunt Peggy
Uncle Doug and Aunt Bonnie
Uncle Red (James) and Aunt Mary
Uncle Lawrence and Aunt Betty.
The first five pictures are at Uncle Doug's house a few weeks ago and the rest were last night.
Starting with Uncle Doug at the far end of the table and going to the right, Aunt Betty, Tami, Uncle Lawrence, Grandma Bean, Grandpa (Joe) Bean, Aunt Peggy, Uncle Tinker (Jerry).
Intense Concentration......... |
Aunt Bonnie is second from left. You can tell from the somber expressions this is a VERY serious game!!
Uncle Doug (right) and Uncle Tinker |
At least I didn't have the double blank...which is 50 points if you're caught with it |

Trout Anglers
Vacation!
First time fly fishing for trout with my good friend Mark Hutson. Mark and Lisa, Tami and I have rented a cabin at Branson for a couple of nights. Our anniversaries are only a couple of days apart so we planned this trip together. More posts to follow!
