Thank the Lord for My Tater Crop!

Well...I dug my taters today.  To put it mildly, I was underwhelmed.  I guess the dry, hot weather put the hurt on them and they didn't produce.  However, I thank God for the taters I do have!  I have almost eighty pounds of big taters under the house and almost ten pounds of small taters for peas or green beans.

This reminds me of Billy Bray, the old Cornish miner turned preacher.  "One time when his potato crop was very poor, Satan tempted him to believe that God did not love him, or He would have given him a better potato crop.  Billy recognized this as a temptation from the devil, and he said ""Why, I've got your written character home to my house; and it do say, sir that you be 'a liar from the beginning.' ""  He told the devil that when he served him he had 'only rags and no taturs.'  He then recounted God's blessings until the devil 'went off like he'd been shot.' Eggs - What Kind?

I dug up these eggs in my tater patch.  Anybody know what kind they are?  I'm guessing turtle or maybe blacksnake.

One of my heroes crossed over the river and through the gates of Heaven today.  I have went to church with Brother Johnny Woods since my childhood, have eaten MANY meals at the Woods' table and been so blessed to call them friends.  My thoughts and prayers are with Sister Opal Woods and the Woods family.

The Transit of Venus

The transit of the planet Venus across the Sun is occurring today and tomorrow...but don't worry if you miss it...the next transit will be in 2117...during the Millennial Reign!  We have solar filters that fit on our old theodolites and total stations. We used them (back in the old days!!!) to do solar observations to determine astronomic or true north.  I set up one of the total stations, attached the filter, focused on the sun and the result is the pictures below.  I took my old digital camera and pressed the lens against the eyepiece of the total station and it took some good pictures!  You can faintly see the cross-hairs of the total station in the pictures.  Venus is the little spot in the top right part of the Sun.

Our God is an Awesome God!  We do not live in a world of evolutional-schmevolutional chaos.  Our Creator brought order to chaos!

Gen 1:1-2  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  (2)  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.  And at the end of every day of creation, God looked at his handiwork and declared it to be GOOD!

Don't worry about the idiots that say global warming will destroy the earth, that the ozone layer (or lack thereof) will change the seasons or cataclysmic climate change is coming (see below)

Gen 8:22  While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Amen!

Beans, Beets and Cukes

My "other" garden which has green beans, beets and cucumbers. We are almost out of canned beans and pickled beets so I hope the crop is good! Picked the beans this morning and gonna see if I can roust out some new potatoes to cook with them! I stagger the planting of the beans so it doesn't overwhelm us.  From the right, two rows of beans, two rows of beets, two rows of beans, half row of cucumbers, half row beets.   The rest is Grandpa's.
