Mount Washington Cog Railway

May 22, 2011  Riggs Anniversary Trip

One of the highlights of our trip was a ride up Mount Washington on the "Mount Washington Cog Railway.  I will leave the statistics and facts to your reading but it was awesome trip!  It was a beautiful sunny Sunday morning and we actually rode through some clouds on our way down.  I was afraid to take to many videos with my phone since I had to hold it out the window and I didn't have a strap but I did take a few pictures (150+) since my camera did have one.  Read about the Cog Railway HERE and the Mount Washington Observatory THERE    Enjoy the ride!

This is the biodiesel locomotive that took us to the top.

Cozy Drive In

On our way to visit Tami's family in Portage, IN, we traveled through Springfield, IL.  We turned off onto "The Mother Road", Old Route 66 and ate at the "Cozy Drive In"!  Their specialty is the "Cozy Dog" so we all ordered some!  You can say they're "just corn dogs" but they were exceptionally good...must have been the ambiance!.... Check out their website here

Jefferson Inn Bed & Breakfast

May 21, 2011 - Riggs Anniversary Trip

We spent the night at the Jefferson Inn Bed and Breakfast in......Jefferson, NH.  It was a very nice B&B and the innkeepers were nice folks.  I didn't put any pictures of the view off of the porch...not because it wasn't picturesque but because there were about fifteen power lines right in the middle of the view! We stayed in the Monticello Room which was very comfortable!

Libby's Bistro/SAALT Pub, Gorham, NH

May 21, 2011 - Riggs Anniversary Trip

Tami and I were in Fullers Sugarhouse, in Lancaster, NH and while visiting with the clerk, we asked about a good place to eat in the town.  We were told a couple of places but some folks that were in the store shopping told us we should visit Libby's Bistro in Gorham, NH.  We had come through Gorham on our way to the B&B so we decided to backtrack and check out Libby's.

When we arrived the place seemed empty but the owner met us at the front door and explained that due to a recent reopening, all reservations were taken for the evening.  We didn't know we had to have reservations!!  She then explained to us that the SAALT Pub below the Bistro served basically the same menu.  Hmmmmmm.......We visited for a few minutes and explained that we didn't frequent bars, pubs or taverns so we would just find someplace else.  She then explained that it was not the regular hours at the pub and there shouldn't be anyone there if we wanted to try the menu.  I was still skeptical as was Tami but we did check it out.  We seated ourselves, were waited on and the food was outstanding!

The specialty was Baked Onion Soup.  I had to stop myself from eating the bowl and all!  It was a thickened french onion soup in a crock bowl with slices of homemade french bread on the top of the soup, and parmesan and mozzarella cheese on top everything!  This was then baked until the top was crusty!!  Whooboy!!!

I also had a regular burger which was anything but regular.  Tami had a Meatloaf and Blue Cheese sandwich (and we shared the soup).  The burger and sandwich were served on a board, which we thought was very neat!!!  It was a real pleasant meal and next time we will know to make reservations beforehand!!
